"To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intellingent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one's self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation......to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - this is to have succeeded." Ralph Waldo Emerson

SNOWING???? In TEXAS???? Now my pediatrics class has been canceled for today...

Monday, October 23, 2006

So I had to drop my Pedi semester due to my surgery  Disappointing....I cried a few times that week, but God is sovereign. My OB semester started today  I love it! It's so interesting....I just got out of my first class and my teacher is awesome. God is good, He is sovereign. May I continue on in my studies striving to do my best and glorifying Him! Have a blessed day everyone!

I haven't updated in so long because I've been so busy....like, how in the world are you suppose to update this thing with your life?? Too difficult. I know, I did it at one point, but I think that point has passed....but maybe it'll come again. You never know

I fly out in the morning!!

Monday, August 14, 2006

This afternoon I ran for an hour...along the streets, past trams, old ladies selling vegetables, tall, never ending apartment buildings, and finally after nearly getting run over by a car I found the beautiful park I was looking for. Tall trees, a pond with swans, statues, benches lining sidewalks...the perfect place to run and the perfect day to run. Sixty-two degrees with clouds in the sky but plenty of sunshine too and an occasional drop of rain. I love the beauty of God's creation....you can't help but turn your thoughts to him when in surroundings such as those...

Yesterday I went to a village in the Carpathian Mountains with the guys to show a film and hand out Bible Correspondence Course invitations. We drove along bumpy roads for almost three hours until we reached the tiny village that was our destination. The mountains were beautiful! It was a sunny day, with the normal 10-30 minute rain showers I've learned to get used to, but that is what makes the mountains so beautiful and the trees and hillsides so green. It being Sunday morning, most everyone in the village was at mass. The priest chanted and sang, the people mimicked his sounds, and the church was so full some were standing. A group of small children played quietly outside while the service went on. What a sad thing to hear and see....in these small villages everyone knows everyone. They are all devout Catholics and faithfully fulfill their Catholic duties. Statues and pictures of Mary are everywhere. Their false religion is so embedded in their lives, their homes, their children....I pray the light of the truth shown and spoken in that village may break through those dark rituals. While the film was showing we split up and walked around the villages passing out the Bible Correspondence Course invitations. Jonathan and I walked this one section of the village together. I took a lot of pictures but it is hard to capture the mountains or the people or how they live in photos. Maybe I can put some up soon. Anyway, we walked up the hills to the houses, past ducks, through steams that ran right in the middle of the road, avoiding savage dogs, smiling to those we saw, and sticking a track in the gate or handing it to someone outside their door. We passed an old baba (pronounced baubu) once herding some goats...most baba's aren't that nice, but this one was precious! She stopped to look at us and Jonathan told me later (he understands some Ukrainian) that she was telling us how pretty we were....awww...but it was a good afternoon. So interesting. We drove the 2 1/2 hours back along the bumpy freeways, with drivers going however fast they want and wherever they want. It's amazing how terrible they drive here...Dallas driving doesn't even compare. I got a slight fever that night, I think from lack of sleep, a long day, and 5 hours of bouncing up and down in the car. But I'm much better today and glad I got to go....

OH, and it's so amazing! It's incredible the things God can work out. I met a Ukrainian girl who is my same age, has finished her RN in Ukraine, can speak English pretty well, and is taking English classes and hoping to come to America in the next year or so to work as a nurse! We have so much in common and when we have a chance to get together we talk and talk. She is so sweet and genuine. I love her! What a neat thing to have a Ukrainian friend and have so much in common!. She's shown me things around L'viv, we've taken walks in the park, had ice-cream and tea at a beautiful cafe, and last time she got to come over and meet Joshua and Kelsie. Pray that I can be a witness to her! But every time I think about it I just can't believe it! How amazing and wonderful God is to work it out so that we could meet. Her name is Nadia and how we met is that she heard Jonathan speaking English on the tram one day and was so excited to see an American that she could talk to! Anyway, I wasn't in Ukraine yet, but Jonathan told her about me and that I was a nurse. So they exchanged emails and Jonathan promised to introduce us when I got to Ukraine. I'd been here about three weeks before it worked out for us to meet, but I'm so glad we did! Hopefully we can get together once or twice more before I leave. I'll be sad to leave her behind, but I hope we can see each other again! And we both have email, so we can keep in touch that way. =) But isn't God so amazingly good??

Well, I'd better go. I'm a little distracted to say the least...Josh and Kelsie are cracking jokes and distracting me. hehe...they are so cute. I miss everyone at home! And yes, like Mark said on his xanga, we are together and just seeing where the Lord leads. But I only have one more week here and I'm glad because I miss him so much! Alright, see everyone soon!

Jess
